INTERNET OF THINGS

Hello readers, hope for your good health,

I am sharing my knowledge with a coined word in general “internet of things” which is surfing itself on the way in arena on networking.

What is internet of thing?

Answer is with in the term itself. Interconnection of various things i.e inter networking of devices, vehicles (smart devices), buildings, other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, can be a person with a heart monitor implant, a farm animal with a bio chip transponder, an automobile that has built-in sensor to alert the driver when tire pressure is low — or any other natural or man-made object that can be assigned an IP address and provided with the ability to transfer data over a network.

When the word Internet of thing first came into existence?

The word was coined by Peter T.Lewis in 1985, during a speech in US Federal communications Commission (FCC) supported wireless session at the Congressional Black Caucus 15th Legislative weekend conference. He stated in speech IoT is integration of people processes and technology with connectable devices and sensors to enable remote monitoring status and manipulation as well as evaluation of such devices.

How IoT is evolved ?

IoT has evolved from the convergence of wireless technologies., micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) Microservices and the internet breaking wall between operational and informational technology allowing machine data which is not structural, to get analysed and evaluated for improvements.

“Today computers — and, therefore, the internet — are almost wholly dependent on human beings for information. Nearly all of the roughly 50 PB (a petabyte is 1,024 TB) of data available on the internet were first captured and created by human beings by typing, pressing a record button, taking a digital picture or scanning a bar code. The problem is, people have limited time, attention and accuracy — all of which means they are not very good at capturing data about things in the real world. If we had computers that knew everything there was to know about things — using data they gathered without any help from us — we would be able to track and count everything and greatly reduce waste, loss and cost. We would know when things needed replacing, repairing or recalling and whether they were fresh or past their best.” (excerpts from IoT agenda)

Typically IoT is expected to offer advanced connectivity of devices, systems and services that goes beyond machine to machine, communications and covers a variety of protocols, domains and applications. The interconnection of these embedded devices (including smart objects) is expected to usher in automation in nearly all the fields, while also enabling advanced applications like a smart grid and expanding to areas such as smart cities.
